Why (really) do the Democrats want to delay transition to all digital TV? Transition to digital TV is supposed to be a cash cow for the taxpayer. Our government expects to sell the frequencies in the analog spectrum once they are no longer needed for Analog TV. So, why would we delay those sales? Don't we need the money?
- Why can't we rely on “the Couch Potato Law of Motion” ** to motivate stragglers who aren’t ready. If your screen went blank, wouldn't you finally take care of yourself (by buying a converter or a new TV)?
- Does anyone else find it odd that ODD was delayed out of concern that too many Americans won’t be ready for the change? The reason sounds suspect; I just don’t know what the real reason might be.
In line with OBAMA’s recent Memorandum on Transparency and Open Government :
- I think we should get to see an (easy to read) online Profit and Loss (P&L) statement for ODD, so we can monitor the program’s profitability over time.
- In fact, shouldn’t we see P&L’s for any program that stands to have receipts offset outlays (like when the government starts selling whatever toxic assets it acquires under the TARP program)?
